"I won't coddle you, Anna," Mina said. She wouldn't have coddled Jacqueline either. "You have to make a choice. You either choose to be your own person, or you accept what's happened to you and let yourself become that. It's the easier choice, certainly. But I'm not sure it's what will make you a happier person, in the long run."

Indeed, Mina doubted Anna would be much of a 'person' at all, if she gave in.
