winter warm

Who: Kenzi and Party Poisson
What: SWEET HUNTING SHENANIGANS so good at hunting, wow so god
Where: Up in the norther edges, in the woods
When: Day 48, evening
Warnings: Hunting, so animal blood/death. Cursing, probably some serious conversations about death, who even knows.

Sometimes being at her back like this would be warm, intimate, fucking sexy. Y'know, close. Right now, though, it's cold, and they're both bundled up against the remaining chill, and his hands at her waist are to steady her, and his mouth over her ear is more utility than sensuality. He watches the grazing deer in front of them attentively, knows she's watching it too.

"Deep breath." He reminds her in a low whisper, eyes running down the crossbow. She's good, he's sure, but a little extra help never hurts. "It doesn't know we're here. Anytime now, Kenz. Deep breath and get it."

She's a little torn up about this, but her stomach's always been the go-to decision making organ when in doubt. Her heart's just going to have to deal with it while her brain keeps repeating how it's them or the deer. There's only so much stale cereal a person can eat!

And while she's good, she's not that good. Bo's a million times better with this thing than Kenzi is, but she's had practice. She knows what she's doing. Sure, the target is a little farther than anything she's tried to shoot before, but it's actually easier to focus with Party there and time to think and a chance to breath instead of just reacting to an attack. It would be kind of calming if it weren't for the fact that she was about to kill a cuddly animal. Jeeze! But it won't even see it coming. It's fine!

She breathes in deep, exhales slow, holds that breath while adjusting her aim and squeezes the trigger. The bolt hits the deer in the neck and the animal doesn't get very far before it goes down. Hopefully dead already. Hopefully not just lying there-- at least they didn't have to follow the poor thing farther into the woods.

Kenzi lowers the crossbow, bringing a hand tentatively to cover her mouth. She looks like she's either gonna pass out or vom and is suddenly very thankful for those steadying hands. "... Is it bad that shooting sentient, violent psychos is way easier?"
