Lydia hadn't looked back since they'd started running. Not even once. Looking back would only make it worse. She'd learned that lesson already.

It was difficult to tell who was pulling who at this point, all she knew was that there was no way in hell she was letting go of Bruce's hand. Not even when she practically slammed into the door and fumbled to get it open single-handedly, urging Bruce inside before slipping into the building behind him and slamming the door shut.
"We ... we have to block the exits. We have to barricade the doors, and-- a-and the windows, and... oh god. Is he dead? Is that guy dead? There was blood and-- .... what was that?
