The formula checks out as far as he can tell, but he hasn't had time to fiddle with it obviously to know whether or not Tony is representing the facts properly, if the reversal works as well as he's saying or as he believes. Not that he thinks Tony would lie to him, but Tony could be blinded by the science. That happens easily enough.
