"Sorry to hear that," Ned says, sobering a little when Jesse tells him he isn't in control of his power at the moment. If he gained control of his own powers, at some point, only to lose it later, he would be taking it a whole lot worse than Jesse. And the way he describes his power is... interesting. Ned had never given much thought, until recently, about the little ways in which his power changes his sensory experience of the world. Jesse describes his own powers as it they were a separate, sentient thing, trapped within his body. That isn't at all an experience Ned can relate to, personally.

But that thought is waylaid when Jesse says that he was given his powers. A tiny crease forms between Ned's brows.

"Gave... how?" He doesn't understand how such a thing would be possible. "It was an experiment? Like when you got turned into a werewolf, only it stuck around?"
