Ned notices that he has acquired a small, Elizabeth-shaped shadow, but he certainly doesn't mind. He can sympathize. Of all the people here, he's pretty sure she's the newest to town, and she doubtless doesn't really know anyone. It's only natural for her to stick near the one person she does know, and the one who (no matter how uncomfortable it makes him) has wound up somewhat in charge of things.
