He's never liked making other people uncomfortable for whatever reason - and particularly not people he considers to be his friends. Whether Charlie is referring to same-sex romantic involvement, or relationships, or emotions generally when he says 'this shit', the answer remains the same. Far more edgy than he got about subjects which, to Ned, seemed much more volatile.
