He's... overthinking this. That's a problem, because thinking is far easier than simply feeling, particularly in these situations where he's so completely out of his depth. Thinking is clear, logical, and while it's inaccurate to say he doesn't have emotions, they are different, muted. It's obvious, though, that the issue is one of experience, not knowledge.
And experience often means making mistakes. These ones are of little import, but some could harm Ned, too.
