And responsibility, don't forget responsibility. Honestly, as much as he cares about Balthazar, it's tempting to just say 'well, I tried' and leave. He doesn't think Balthazar's far enough gone (or stupid enough) to pick a fight with anyone he can't take and, well, for the most part Gabriel doesn't care much about the humans here. There are a few he'd like not to get hurt, and ideally he'd rather no one was maimed, but if Balthazar were to go off the rails and stab a hole in one of the lesser beings, Gabriel probably wouldn't be too bothered. If it did Balthazar's psychological state any good, he might even consider it a blessing in disguise, even if he wouldn't actively condone it.
