the Doctor's doctor
Who: the Doctor, Mina
What: post this thread, the Doctor finds out he isn't a super hero.
When: Day 50
Where: Mina's residence
It took him a moment to realize this wasn't something that he could easily fix in a healing coma, or at least he needed to probably be stitched up a bit first. When he finally stood up, he nearly collapsed back again, before forcing himself upright.
He was somewhere between the bar and pharmacy, meaning he could easily make it back to his place, but... something nagged at him saying he needed to see someone. If Martha was here, he'd go straight to her, let her lecture him some as she bandaged him, but she wasn't and he couldn't burden Donna when she didn't know he wasn't human. Not yet.
Splinting his side, he walked slowly, but he was definitely walking and after what seemed quite the journey, he found himself on the doorsteps of Mina's house. He pressed his forehead against the cool wood of the door and he used the heel of his palm to pathetically knock. Hopefully she was home, because he had no energy to go anywhere else.

"Something tells me there's a lot I don't know about you yet." And now who was the one treating the other like a science experiment? And if Mina didn't know any better, he would appear to be 100% back to normal, despite some lingering soreness.

How odd it was, that she hoped she was somehow worthwhile. Perhaps it was because she felt so mistreated by the other inhabitants of the island. Or perhaps because he was something very, very special.

Hoping to his feet, "You sure about that cuppa?" Because he was going to help himself to another.

Even then, sometimes, it was dicey. When a Kindred's body rejected something, it was quite the disgusting display.
"All the food and drink in the house belonged to our mortal flatmate," she said. "This room did too. Unfortunately, she disappeared some months ago."
There was very, very real sadness in her tone.

Not that he was concerned about being bitten, well, maybe slightly, and not for his sake but hers. His blood was different from a human's: different antibodies, no exact type, he didn't know what kind of effect it would have on her.

Small. Too small to maintain the vampire population that it had.

"This is a bit of a silly question, but are you able to feed off animals? Or what about the non-humans here?"
no subject
"I can feed off of animals, yes," she said. "However, as I can't talk to them and I'm not an expert tracker, that's a bit difficult." She frowned. "As for feeding off of non-humans. It is...frowned upon. Mostly because we don't know what the results will be. I have done some experimenting, I must admit. So far, I haven't burst into flames."

If he found this situation to be so frustrating, he can only imagine what it was like for Mina. "You didn't either when we took shelter in that church. A silver lining!" He excuses himself to refill his cuppa.

She raked her fingers through her hair. "Admittedly, I am quite the pagan. The Catholic God never had much to offer me. I remember the exact moment I realized that. It was before I died."

The Doctor walked over and placed his cup on the night stand before taking a seat on the edge of the bed, smiling softly. "You look tired."
no subject
She opened her mouth, to explain to him the rules regarding sunrise and a Kindred's physiological need to sleep, but she stopped herself. In one evening, she'd already exposed quite a lot of her vulnerabilities. And common sense demanded that she stop. So she said nothing more on the subject.
"You've certainly made for an interesting night, Doctor."
no subject
And then he was smiling all teeth, showing, "Ah, it has been!" He probably shouldn't be feeling so upbeat about it, but given he got to know a little more about her, he appreciated it.
"I don't think I can thank you enough, Mina. For everything, really." He wasn't sure if she knew how rare it was to find him in such a state, but he valued her trust and friendship more than she probably knew.

She stood up, but paused, looking back at him. "Are you feeling well enough to go home?" she asked. "Or would you prefer to stay awhile? No one will bother you. Rosa and I will both be asleep."
no subject
"If there's anything I can do for you, don't hesitate to ask." He leaned over to collect his cup, quickly finishing it.
no subject
She smiled graciously. "I'll keep that in mind, darling," she told him diplomatically. "Just do try not to get your brains bashed in."
no subject
Remembering his manners, which was a rare feat in itself, he placed the cup he had set out for Mina back into the cabinet and poured out the kettle. "I'll be out of your hair in just a tic."
no subject
And pirates, of course. But most of the pirates she was still in touch with were Ventrue so there was that.
As much as she enjoyed seeing such a domestic man, after a moment, she walked over, taking the kettle for him. "I can manage it, dear. I used to run an inn. I know how to clean a tea kettle."
no subject
"Alright, then!"
Without asking, he throws his arms around her in a hug before rushing back to the door. "I'll see you later, yeah?"
no subject
"Yes," she said. "Of course."
