Sam could hear the people on his wrist thing talking, but he wasn't really all the comfortable talking to people he didn't know. Not yet, especially if they were being watched. He was still unsure about this not being another show that the Trickster was making him play out, but the fear he could hear from the people's voices on his wrist felt real.

One of the first rules in a hunt though was to learn your environment. So while Dean was watching over a comatose Castiel in the house they claimed, Sam was out scouting to see what he could figure out about this place.

Her smile widened. "So Sam Winchester. How are you dealing with this pr..." She paused, as she looked for a word that wasn't 'prison...' "um... this town?"

"I've been catching up on my reading, mostly. Pretty good library here."

He may be reading up on the history of the place and any strange happenings, but he had yet to find anything that was worth a lick of salt.

"Yeah? I've not had a chance to go yet. This is my first time actually looking around at more than just the clinic and my place." She'd go later to look up medical books. Everything she'd seen technologically said they really didn't have much to work with. She wondered if the medical books would give her a better clue about anything.

"I've been exploring too. Trying to get a feel for the lay of the land. It's usually a good idea to know your surroundings before you let yourself try to organize things, you know."

Martha nodded. "Not that it's something I usually get to do. Usually I'm in to see who I can heal, transport whomever I can back to a hospital, and then I'm on my way."

Sam just nodded, hands in his jeans. He normally felt the same way, but he just felt... out of place here. It was just too awkward for him to jump in like Martha seemed to be capable of.

"there's nothing wrong with that at all."

Martha was only capable because she was used to waking up in different places and you know, dealing with weirdness. How many times had she and the Doctor ended up stuck somewhere. He'd get them out.

"So, um... it's getting late. You need someone to walk you back to where ever you're squatting?"

Martha started to shake her head. She could take care of herself. But she stopped. It was nice of him to offer, and even though she wasn't that far from her house, it wouldn't do to be rude to fellow prisoners. "Need? Not really. But you're welcome to walk me back to my flat... house... if you'd like. Can't do much without the light anyway."

He nodded and motioned for her to start walking, since he wasn't sure which of the other homes she was living in.

'So do you have anyone from home here with you?"

"I used to travel with my flatmate," she replied. "We spent a lot of time together. So at least we are used to each other's habits. How about you? Were you lucky in that aspect?"

Little did Martha know, the Doctor was going to disappear on her forever, and the other person she knew from her time had no recollection of anything related to the Doctor. Things were going to get very lonely in a few days.

"I travel with my brother. Which is nice usually since we know each other well. But it's also my brother, so there are times we just want to strangle each other."

Martha laughed. "I can't imagine traveling with any of my family members. I'm the peace keeper. They wouldn't handle this sort of travel anyway," she added.

"We've spent most of our lives on the road, so it's really what we know. You lock us in a hotel room for three days though? Man, we're at each other's throats in a heartbeat."

Martha laughed. "Oh my companion and I had a fare few of those too. But it's all worth it in the end."
