Notess: Party style thread guys, so go nuts. No order, everything is chaos, tag to your hearts content, feel free to break off into separate threads, and no spiking the punch! Also I think she's sort of mentioned it to a bunch of people but want to do me some lovely favours and handwave the actual name drawing? I will backtag if people want but it seems a little pointless to thread that out.

There's another message on the network that morning from Anna, just audio again. It's about as garbled as her first one regarding the Secret Santa idea, but for anyone who is listening closely enough they'll make out a few details. Namely this evening, town hall, and bring your presents before she shuts it off.

She's spent the rest of the day trying to do what she can to make the place look nicer. She's hardly got Christmas decorations on tap, but she's done what she can with what she has all the same. There's paper snow flakes up around the place, some of the food from her house placed in bowls to make it more party-appropriate, and it's no fir but she has relocated a small tree from the edge of the woods and placed it in the hall. Barely decorated, not even the right kind of tree, it's the best she can do with the resources she's been given.

Now all there is to do is wait for people to come.

Something tells Castiel that Gabriel might have been asking for it, but he knows just enough not to point that out. Besides, he can't count the number of angels who had wanted him dead for a while and he still missed them in some ways. It hurt, of course, but he did, anyway.

"That seems fair." Then he smiles. "I only tried to kill you a little."

In fairness, attempts on Gabriel's life are generally warranted, and they're hardly rare. He's accustomed enough to them that they don't usually factor that much into his feelings.

"More than can be said for most people I know. Thanks. I only tried to beat the crap out of you a little, if that's any consolation."

"I appreciate that." He's not stupid. He knows that Gabriel is more powerful than he is, especially now. If Gabriel wanted something to happen to Castiel, he'd already be dead. Gabriel pulls his punches and much as Castiel wants to understand why, he wants Gabriel to stick around more and he knows that asking will chase him off as a best case scenario.

"Had I known who you were, it's highly unlikely that I would have tried at all."

"Yeah? I wouldn't put it past you to be that dumb."

Especially when Winchesters are involved - Gabriel wouldn't have been the first archangel he'd knowingly taken on. But Castiel's right, dancing around personal questions is probably the surest way to get rid of Gabriel, or at least to make him uncomfortable. Hence a somewhat abrupt change of subject.

"Specially if you keep drinking that stuff. Might wanna slow down there, champ."

"I might have changed tactics at the very least." Castiel smile grows a little as he hands the drink back to Gabriel. Gabriel is correct, of course. If he'd kept pushing for the apocalypse, Castiel would have kept fighting him, but in the end, he'd helped them.

Gabriel had died helping them and that had won a certain sense of admiration from Castiel. There was at least a hint of loyalty there now that would never have been there before. Castiel had trusted the wrong people a few times, but he didn't think Gabriel would betray him, at least not over anything they would encounter here.

"To something totally nonviolent, like trying to win me over with baked goods? Cause y'know, that probably woulda worked."

Which is not entirely facetious. While Gabriel's stance on war isn't really moral enough to call him a pacifist, a side set on avoiding fighting is far more likely to have his support. Plus he really likes cookies.

He honestly hadn't even thought about something like that.

"I'm starting to think nonviolence may be a better path for a lot of things." Even after everything he's seen and done, it's a difficult thing to really accept. He's a soldier. Whether he wants to fight or not, he was made to, and of course he fought so that he could make his own decisions, but he also has his own nature to contend with and the fact that even when he'd told Dean he was done fighting, he'd still dropped everything to help Dean fight, anyway.

"And you only had to die how many times before you realised that?"

It's okay to joke about Castiel's death if it didn't stick, right? Right? Oh, well. Gabriel's not all that bothered about manners anyway.

"Three deaths and a trip to Purgatory." He doesn't see the humor in it, but he's not one to withhold that particular truth or to get offended about it. It's not as if Gabriel ever killed him. "Perhaps I'm a slower learner than I'd realized."

"Yeah. That puts you at even slower than I'd thought and I'mma be honest here, kid, that's saying something."

He sighs, and shakes his head. It's not funny, really, but... three deaths and a trip to Purgatory, that's quite the track record.

"Guess you're lucky someone up there likes you, huh?"

"Do you think so?" He looks away. "I thought that at first, too, but every time I come back, it's worse. I think He's punishing me." Death would mean he could stop seeing the results of his terrible actions. He could stop having to look at what he's done. Even Purgatory was an easier and more deserved punishment than being here and seeing all the people he'd hurt.

"It's a figure of speech, Castiel."

Gabriel had, of course, meant it as Castiel had understood it, but their father isn't a topic ideal for polite conversation. Nor is Castiel's rather gloomy outlook.

"Anyway - lighten up! 'Tis the season, allegedly. Go find some mistletoe and a drunk chick and ding dong merrily on high, as they say."

Castiel's face lost some of its gloom. "I don't think I'll do that, but I appreciate the sentiment, Gabriel. Thank you."

"You're welcome. Always happy to help." Okay, he can't quite keep a straight face saying that, but he at least makes an effort.
