Sea monster attack!

Who: The kidnappees, rescuers, and whoever wants to wait on the beach with towels. See here for an explanation.
When: Afternoon Day 102
Where: The beach
What: The device holding the sea monster at bay has been without power for two days, and now he's... lonely. Or angry. Angry and lonely. But now he's kidnapped some new friends!

The network has been spotty, cutting in and out for a couple days now, but luckily for everyone currently in the monster's grasp, Stane happens to be standing in the middle of a decent signal area.

"The sea monster is taking people! Hurry!"

Team Save Donna!

[personal profile] happytobleed 2013-08-16 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Castiel hears the yelling and he comes running from the park in time to see Donna's head disappear beneath the waves.

Quickly, he runs down one of the crumbling docks and dives in with all of his clothes on, swimming as fast as he can after the retreating shape of her red hair.

When Wallie got the message he lost no time in acting, even if he doesn't want to believe in a sea monster. He doesn't have time now, though, to disbelief, and as he runs down to the beach, he sees Castiel dive in.

He doesn't know Castiel, and he can't even tell who just went under. It doesn't matter. He has his sword on his back for when he needs it, and if that's any good against sea monsters, he'll be there to try it.

Maybe it's unwise, but he's leaping in after, putting all his muscles to good use with a good front crawl.

"OIIIII!" The Doctor comes running from the distance, racing as fast as he can to the ocean, water splashing as he makes his way in, water up to his knees. The tides were strong given this creature was massive, he would be soaked within seconds.

"DONNA!" He had a feeling something was going to happen, and that one bloke on the messages had said it would. The Doctor just chose to ignore it, even though the feelings nagged at him as the power went off and he disclosed to Donna with such feelings.

But he never predicted his best mate to be taken, as he stood there, hair and clothes now clinging to his thin frame. Everyone was moving quickly, he wasn't sure who else was in here until he looked over to a very tall man with a sword next to him.

"Who else was taken? Do you know?"

Donna had had a bad feeling something was going to happen. She'd felt it in the pit of her stomach. And in this place when things happen they're nearly always bad things. Never good ones. Or rarely good ones.

What she wasn't expecting was to get snatched by a giant flippin' sea monster! Hadn't she been telling people all along about the giant flippin' sea monster and hadn't everyone thought she was crazy? Well, ha! Who's laughing now? Well actually, not Donna, because she's trying not to drown...

'The sea monster is taking people'? This is not a phrase Balthazar ever anticipated hearing in a serious context, but any comments about weird porn sputter and die before they reach the stage where he'd consider uttering them. This is serious. People could drown.

Dropping everything, he's at the beach in a second, peering into the waves. "How many people have been taken?" He shouts at no one in particular. With a flick of his wrist, his sword appears in his right hand.

((If the Save Riley team wants to start from this thread, that's fine with me! Otherwise, on-the-beach discussion is a go.))

Meyer'd been at home when he heard the announcement, but it doesn't take him long to gather up his gun and make his way to the beach as quickly as possible. His still-healing broken ribs might give him some trouble in hurrying, but there's absolutely no way he's staying at home and sitting around when something this potentially deadly is happening.

Gun in hand, he makes his way onto the beach cautiously, and, as luck would have it, finds himself standing next to Balthazar when he shouts his question. "Looks like two, maybe three," he responds, even if the question isn't directed at him, although in actuality, he has no way of knowing the number for sure, and he has the sinking sensation that there are probably more than that.

((Well, here's one part of the Save Riley team anyway!))

Castiel's already under the water, unable to hear any yelling and focusing intently on keeping Donna in sight. If he can still see her, he can save her!

With his strength, he can swim quickly, even with his coat getting caught in the current and weighing him down, and he's far past needing to breath, so he doesn't bother to surface.

As he swims, another tentacle flings past him, narrowly missing his leg.

Dean double checks his weapons before he comes running, stumbling a little when he gets to the sand. He surveys the scene quickly, spots Cas out in the water, but he knows Cas can handle himself, and once he spots the vic he's headed toward, Dean looks for someone else who needs saving.

Shiala isn't all that hard to spot, and Dean sets his sights on her. He has to get rid of his shoes first; they'll slow him down, more than it's slowing him down now to get them off.

He glances around him, automatically looking to see who else is here, who might need an order barked at them to get them moving.

This guy he's following is something else; Wallie doesn't know how he can swim like that. Wallie makes a note to ask him about it later, when he has a chance.

There has to be a way to loose that hold on Donna, there must be. A tentacle comes up alongside in the water, and Wallie can still touch bottom, and awkwardly in the water he manages to draw his sword, slash at it until it backs off. His sword is heavy, a liability in the water, but he won't let it sink, either.

"Charging off to play hero, are you?"

Jo's voice comes from just behind and to the right of him, where she all but skids to a stop and starts removing her own shoes, tossing them aside carelessly. Weapons can stay, but shoes are nothing but a hindrance while swimming. She'll gladly go without.

"I'm going with you. There's no way you're running into this headfirst all on your own."

The tentacle fails wildly after Wallie's attack, nearly smashing into the Doctor, but he ducked quick enough to avoid it, and swallow a gulp of water upon accident.

Sputter for a moment, he wades closer to Wallie, "You'll anger it!" He comments as another tentacle rose in the air, threatening to smash into them. Quickly the Doctor pushed away from Wallie, ducking back into the water, now losing sight of Castiel.

"We need a plan!"

Angel bros to the rescue

[personal profile] servingmichael 2013-08-17 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Raphael had heard the call over the device - he'd heard the screams too. In an instant, he was there, surprised by how many others were there, and surprised to see someone from his dreams in the grasp of the monster. He attempted to grab him with telekinesis but wasn't sure he could do so without hurting Alec, which meant this was going to get more hands on.

"Samandriel." He called to his younger brother, motioning.

The tentacle keeps dragging her down beneath the water. Her chest aches from trying to hold her breath. She's given up screaming, trying instead to conserve as much oxygen as possible.

They say before you die your life flashes before your eyes. And what a life it is. Though whether it's her life flashing of unconsciousness kicking in it's hard to tell.

Having also heard the news over the network, Samandriel was already on the beach, fretting over the attack. He was inclined, at first, to go assist Donna's rescue, as she had already helped him once before, but his attention was then grabbed by Raphael. Hearing the call, he was at his brother's side in a second, practically wringing his hands.

"Raphael?" Looking to the other curiously, it was assumed that he had been called over to help. That was good, he wanted nothing more in the moment than to help those that had been taken, and two of them would do far better than just one. "Do you have a plan?"

He glances over his shoulder when he hears her, and even if he's maybe annoyed, maybe afraid for her, maybe would rather she stay where it's safe, he also knows better and he's also pretty sure he could use her help.

"In case you haven't noticed, that's a giant octopus looking thing." He stands up and subtly checks the placement of his knifes as he tucks away one of the ones that was in his boot. He shoots her a tight smile; it's as jokey as he can get right about now, which is still pretty up there.

"There's no 'playing hero' about this. This is straight out of a B movie, made real life. You ready?"

Under the water, Castiel's angel blade is in his hand as if it had been there all along.

When he finally catches up to the tentacle that has Donna, the first thing he does is use what energy he can to create a small bubble of air around her head. Then he stabs at the tentacle, slicing into its strange flesh.

Another tendril wraps around his ankle as he's doing that, pulling him back, but it's thin and he bends to slice it cleanly through without hesitation.

"A plan, right!"

Wallie glances over at the Doctor, but Shonsu's reflexes are thrumming through him wildly, and he wants action. Shonsu would never have had a fight like this, would have charged into it with a suicidal glee.

"Do you have any suggestions? I think it's pretty angry already!"

Maybe Castiel has the right idea.
nevermindtherunning: ([ten] Very concerned)

[personal profile] nevermindtherunning 2013-08-19 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Unable to see the action taking place underwater, the Doctor knew something was happening as he waded out further to Wallie. The Kracken once again reared, raising a couple tentacles high in the air, in a furious roar as one of the tentacles was sliced off.

The Doctor was pushed back, dunked under water briefly, but managed to pop back up. Bloody hell!

"I dunno which one has Donna, but that may be our only choice! Hack away until we find the right one. She won't last long underneath!" Was it Castiel that managed to chop it off? He may never know -- and where was Castiel!?

Why couldn't the bloody thing have taken him? At least he had a respiratory bypass to survive underwater!

The air bubble is a welcome relief. The only thing between Donna and drowning. She flails and kicks and tries to free herself from the tentacle. But even with her bubble of air she is still on the verge of physical exhaustion.

She's vaguely aware of Castiel somewhere near by and movement in the distance but it's all a bit of a blur to her.
servingmichael: (It's simple really)

[personal profile] servingmichael 2013-08-19 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
He'd seen Donna - but he'd also seen Castiel head after her, and whatever he thought of Castiel aside, he's proven himself more than capable of rescuing someone. Which meant unless he heard a distress call from Castiel, he wouldn't think further on Donna, considering it handled and taken care of.

Instead he focused on Samandriel and pointed out Alec.

"My concern is if we grab him with telekineses, we may drag parts of the creature ashore, which will only complicate matters." A caution to his younger brother, though his worrying clear to Raphael. Had Samandriel always been that way? Was it fall out from what had happened? He didn't know the younger angel well, but he needed to figure that out later. "I believe if we fly to him, you grab the boy and fly back here with him, I'll keep the creature busy for a moment, then follow. Should be simple." Should be.

He reached over, putting a hand on his brother's shoulder, part patting him for encouragement, part squeezing gently to try to steady him, and it coming out a little clumsy, Raphael's lack of practice at comforting his siblings clear.

Rat's not as fast as he used to be, but when he hears the cry over the network he drops everything and runs, from the house and for the beach. That the beanpole skids to a halt near Dean is sheer accident or luck. He blinks at the tentacles emerging from the water, taking a few seconds to process all this. "W...we need a weapon..." He pants, still staring.

...Sea monster? Really?

Once free, Castiel goes for the appendage that's holding Donna again, stabbing and slicing at it in hopes that it will loosen its grip long enough for Castiel to pull her free. If he can get her out, they'll have a decent shot at getting away, but he needs to get it to react to his barrage of attacks first.

He jabs it hard and grabs for Donna's wrist in hopes that it will slacken.
reluctantsword: (what did you say???)

[personal profile] reluctantsword 2013-08-20 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds as good a plan as any, to Wallie. Distraction, maybe, or motive for retreat -- either would work, either might make it release its grip on Donna.

With a strangled yell, and the light of Shonsu in his eyes, Wallie strikes at a nearby tentacle, cuts it deep. It cringes, pulls away, but moments later it returns to snake around Wallie in vengeance.

There's a slice of blades, needles, something in his flesh, but for the moment he hardly registers it. Wallie tries to strike at the tentacle that holds him, but it's an awkward angle and a poor wound that he inflicts; his sword drops from his hand, down into the water.

"GIVE ME YOUR HAND!" The Doctor avoids the fallen sword, but is now desperate to catch Wallie, throwing his hand up in the air to try and catch him, preferably his hand, but even snagging his foot would work!

This was not looking good.

Jo has to resist the urge to roll her eyes in response to Dean, mirroring that tight smile in reply as she checks to make sure her own weapons are secure. Good. Everything in place. "You know, somehow I guess I missed that."

Sarcasm has always suited them well. When in doubt, snark. It's always helped to keep her centered. Definitely a better option than freaking out. "I'm ready."

She's about to take off for the water when a familiar face joins them, and at the mention of a weapon, she draws one of her knives from its sheath at her belt and offers it to him handle-first, no questions asked. "Here. Do you know how to use this?" It may be small, but it's a hell of a lot better than nothing.
