Saving the Dead
Who: Martha, the Doctor, Mina, Balthazar, Donna
When: Day 110
What: The earthquake struck during the day when Mina is asleep. Continued from here
Where: Mina's house
Warnings: None
The Doctor was surrounded by some of the most trusted people he knew here in the Cape. Martha and Donna had just shown up minutes after Balthazar and he circled the house.
"Mina is up there." He nods towards her house, which looked like there was some damage, but perhaps not horribly significant. Or so he hoped. However, the structure did not look stable at all, and he was too concerned how exposed she was to the sun, and not to mention whether or not this was catastrophic to her.
It ate at his insides knowing this, and knowing she had helped him so often, it was time for the Doctor to be there for Mina.
"I don't know how stable the structure is, but if we can find her, and find enough blankets..." He swallows, hoping for the best.

Operation Mina Relocation

On the plus side; if anyone on the Cape could rescue her it would be Donna's two most favourite guys. Mina is in good hands.
"Do we have some place safe to take her?"
no subject
It's hard to sense an undead person beneath rubble. "I think I've found her, but the place is not at all stable. I'd better go in alone."
no subject
"There's structure damage and the stairs might collapse on you. It really depends on the damage, but given these large cracks in the side... Her room is on the second floor, that's where she'll be resting."
no subject
"Balthazar? Please be careful... Don't get yourself killed for the sake of playing hero." Because if anything happens to him... Donna sighs. "Doctor! We should fetch blankets. As many as we can find."
no subject
On the other hand, they don't have much time to argue. He leans toward Donna to pat her shoulder reassuringly. "I'll be fine, don't worry."
no subject
"C'mon, we don't have much time. Let's get the blankets." But before the Doctor stepped away, he placed a hand on Balthazar's shoulder, "Please be careful. She looks physically dead when asleep, and it's a bit startling at first, but remember she isn't. Well, technically speaking..."
Pulling away, he rushes off to pillage from other adjacent houses for the blankets available. He needed a few good ones to cover her up

She distracts herself from her worry by seeking out blankets. The thicker and the darker the better she imagines. To block out the light.
((Sorry for the slow, and let me know if this is all right?))
He's just started to like Mina, what with the healing lessons and all. He's not interested in letting her be lost to them.
Later on, he'll be touched by Donna's concern, but at the moment all he can spare her is one last reassuring smile before he vanishes, reappearing inside in the most stable area he can find. A moment to gauge the solidity of the walls and ceiling later, he moves upstairs the more conventional way, slowly so as not to jar the already fragile structure. Still, the landing at the top creaks warningly under his weight, and he decides to pick up the pace.
Mina isn't hard to find, but cracks in the roof and wall are letting trickles of light through, and he can't tell how badly she's been burned already; only that she has been. He allows his wings to swim partly into corporeal space, enough to cast dark shadows over the unconscious form as he gathers her into his arms. It won't be enough without further shelter, but it will mitigate some of the damage.
Teleporting back down to the first floor, he shouts, "I've got her. Do you have blankets yet? Be ready!"
The crumbling house is minimal sun shelter, but once they emerge outside, there'll be even less. This will have to be carefully timed, and ultimately it's Donna and the Doctor who'll have to save Mina from further hurt.
((totally fine! <3 ))
"Here! We're here!" He stumbles into Mina's house where Balthazar protected Mina and immediately dropping to his own knees. Seeing her in this state was alarming and a touch upsetting, knowing she had no control of this. It bothered him if we were a little too late it might be a little too late for Mina.
"Quickly, let's cover her!"
no subject
"Doctor... Is there anything else we can do for her? How will we know if she's going to be okay?" Her vast knowledge and library of TV medical dramas didn't extent to vampire medicine.
no subject
"Vampires are resilient. I doubt Doctor Barrett's lived as long as she has only to get killed in an earthquake," he says quietly. "Do we want to transport her now?"
no subject
He wasn't sure how this was going to work, but he knew the diner was the best suggestion they had thus far for being away from the exposed sun. It didn't matter if they were even in a cardboard box, as long as Mina was safe.

Sunset - the Doctor, Martha, Mina aka The Three Doctors
"Martha!" He shouts for her just outside the door frame to come, and rushes back to Mina, crouching down and anxious to witness the damage.
Re: Sunset - the Doctor, Martha, Mina aka The Three Doctors
She doesn't ask any questions, just stands near him, examining what she can and waiting for him to tell her what's going on. He clearly knows more than she does.
no subject
The Doctor really hoped it wasn't long term damage, but must realize it wasn't his fault and that he got there in time to save her.
"She's burned, but I dunno it'll be when she wakes up." He speaks softly, but with a hint of anxiety lacing his words.
no subject
She puzzled over this briefly, but then made the mistake of turning her head slightly. Her face felt like it was on fire at once, brushing against a blanket that didn't smell like her own. A sting raced across her skin. A searing pain that made her see red on the inside of her eyelids.
When she opened her eyes, she was greeted by darkness.
And at that point, she felt a sudden, sharp pain in her ribs.
no subject
"I guess we'll see once she wakes."
And then there was movement.
"Mina, it's Doctor Jones and... the Doctor. It'd probably be best if you didn't move."
no subject
"You were exposed to the sun. Sorry 'bout that!" He hoped she was rescued in time. "Are you hurt anywhere?" Externally, she looked a bit rough, internally, he had no clue.
no subject
"Broken ribs," she grunted as a bloodred haze settled over her eyes. "At least two. Possibly more."
It was hard to make a proper analysis while being wracked with pain.
"Where the hell am I and what happened?"
no subject
"I don't have supplies for the broken ribs. Burns..." She rummages through her bag.
"Nothing for anything above second degree, but this will help with those. As for the rest, I need to do a physical. And it's going to hurt."
no subject
But at least she was still alive, and that was what he cared about. "Let Martha help you." She could at least stabilize her more.
no subject
She let out a sound, half laugh, half agonized cry. "Save the medical supplies for the living," she told Martha. Under ordinary circumstances, she could have already healed the broken ribs. And as for the burns...there was nothing to be done about those. They would have to heal on their own.
Dropping her head against the ground, two trickles of dark red blood ran down either side of her face, from the corners of her eyes to her ears. Kindred tears. Which, of course, was even more embarrassing than the rest of it. "Get these blankets off of me," she said. "They hurt."
no subject
She pulls the blankets back and pulls an handkerchief from out of a pocket. She presses it into the woman's hand for the tears and looks to the Doctor to help Mina with wiping them away.
"I can't be the only medical doctor here Dr. Barrett. And I don't know anything about vampires. What do you need to heal?"
no subject
"Please don't be stubborn, not now... I tried to come as fast as I could." He spoke softly, cupping a cheek in his hand. "Tell us what we need to do. We're safe now at the moment."
