for my brother, who keeps me sane
Who: Raphael and Gabriel
Where: Gabriel's room in House 11
When: Late night Day 77/obscenely early morning Day 78
What: Raphael is basically a stray cat. At least he doesn't scratch up the doors?
It isn't the first time Raphael's appeared in Gabriel's room when no one else is around, and Gabriel expects (hopes) that it'll be far from the last. Even if the relationship is tense to say the least, too many accusations and apologies still waiting to be made, it's hard to stay away now, after so long apart. Especially with Lucifer still missing, it's a comfort to Gabriel to be reassured every now and then that Raphael's still around. And, well, it has been a while since he's been able to just sit and talk with his brother about nothing at all. Perhaps that in itself is a bad idea - they do have a lot of things to discuss that are actually important, after all - but emotions are for puny humans and if they ignore their problems long enough, they'll go away, right? Right. It's always worked in the past. So, until something happens to actually force them to talk about Feelings, Gabriel at least is perfectly happy to pretend nothing's wrong between them. And the best way to do that is, obviously, to continue his mission to find some candy that Raphael actually likes. So, when Raphael does turn up (and Gabriel will deny forever that he's been sitting there and waiting), he's greeted not with any actual words but with the packet of gummy bears Gabriel lobs at his head.

Or find new ways to get rid of it. With that, if not with anything else, Gabriel was more than able to help.
"I don't know. I wouldn't underestimate him, if I were you... might be interesting to see what he'd come up with."

"Perhaps I'm counting on your expertise. But he might come up with something interesting."

It wasn't ideal, but it wasn't bad. Gabriel, being the impatient and frankly rather childish person that he was, didn't take well to being bored, but this wasn't quite the same. He'd felt that it was, at first, but - and perhaps this was some form of Stockholm Syndrome talking - he was beginning to think otherwise. In fact, he was beginning to suspect that what he'd thought of as boredom was, in fact, contentment. Being unused to the latter as he was, it was an understandable mistake, but having lost the ability to adequately distract himself, he was finding he no longer really needed to. With his family back - or at least some of it - and (inexplicably) seeming to accept and even forgive him, he didn't have much to distract himself from. Apart from the threat of having his family and friends (few though they were) taken from him, he thought he might actually just be comfortable in the Cape, and that was a thought which should have been disturbing. As it was, with Raphael leaning against him, in a house full of angels, it didn't quite manage to be.
"Oh, I'm sure he will. He's Gabriel 2.0, remember? If he comes up with something boring I'll have to go teach him a lesson." A snort and an elbow in Raphael's side, just in case he thought Gabriel was serious about tormenting Balthazar. Only for comedic effect! Nothing seriously traumatic. "Might be something to stave off the boredom, if you're really worried about that."

Boredom for Raphael is too much like an empty Heaven for him to tolerate. He much prefers being distracted by his siblings, and the archangels are the best distraction, really. And even if he hasn't really forgiven Gabriel or the others, it's just so much easier, here, to let it go. Pretend it doesn't matter. He hadn't been exaggerating when he's told Castiel he was tried, he was. Worn clean down to the bone. And for once, he had something easy and just wanted it. It made it so much easier to lean against Gabriel without ill will.
"Boring or uncreative?" He lets his head fall back against Gabriel. He knows he's not serious.

"Well, you know how it is. Back in my day we didn't have any of these newfangled M3P players and tellovision. We had to make our own entertainment."
At the very least, Gabriel was capable of being distracting. He'd spent so much time over the last few thousand years trying to distract himself that he'd got rather good at it, and Raphael was much less demanding than he was. He didn't seem to need scantily dressed women or elaborate cakes or even hilariously ironic murders. If all it took to keep his mind off things for a little while was a chat about nothing and something resembling a hug, Gabriel could do that.
"Either would bring dishonour on him, his family and his cow, so I think we'd better play it safe and make sure he's neither."

Mostly.
It had been clever, at least, and that tempted Raphael's memory at the brief pain and his wounded pride. And battled with his pride over Gabriel - because he did have pride in his siblings.
Gabriel once had been one of the most beloved. Still was, he supposed. He hadn't allowed himself to think about it much, had refused to, even as the shock of Gabriel's Grace dying hit him. He'd actually cried out, and it had been nearly half an eon since something had managed that. He still tried not to think about it - and Gabriel's chatter was a welcome noise in the void.
But the comment get a snort - that one, that one he knows. "This is true. We can't have that."

To him, at least. He imagined Raphael hadn't thought so - and probably still didn't.
"I mean, what kind of big brothers would we be if we let him dishonour himself? We'd be acting in his best interests, really."
no subject
"We really would. We do have a group reputation to protect." This was in no way going to end well.

Somehow he wasn't surprised. He laughed, and tipped his head back against the wall, leaning it just ever so slightly against the top of Raphael's.
"Then it's settled."

He inhales a bit sharply, more so because he doesn't really need to breathe, then leans just that slightly against Gabriel. Years ago he might have pulled Gabriel's arm around him, now he'll take this without demanding more.
"It is."
