Cooking Lessons
Who: Alec Lightwood, Magnus Bane
Where: A kitchen
When: Day 87, lunch time
Summary: Alec's never had to cook in his life and he's turned to his ex-boyfriend for help.
There are a lot of things going wrong in Alec’s life. He’s made a mental list of them and dwelt on each one. His inability to cook, and Magnus are at the top. Today he plans to over come one and try to face the other. He’s nervous as he waits at the agreed meeting place for Magnus, naturally he is ten minutes early.
His clothes are looser on him and he’s biting at a fingernail absentmindedly. Fighting a Greater demon would be easier than this.

He's more subdued here though, that much is obvious, hair falling into his eyes in a way that hides his centuries of age. He ambles a little, but his gaze is purposeful when it seeks Alec out and if he feels a pang in his chest he tries to bury it quickly.
"You know I could have come to your place directly, Alec."
no subject
"I wanted to meet you somewhere neutral." It would have been too familiar, to simply let Magnus into the house. He straightens his shoulders and gestures down the path that leads to his place.
"Shall we? My housemate is out." Which is a good thing, he doesn't feel comfortable sharing a place with someone who isn't a Shadowhunter.

His head tilts to one side, a curious expression on his face though he moves to fall Alec the minute he starts. "Who is your roommate?"
no subject
It's a relief when Magnus gives him something else to talk about.
"She calls herself Jo, we haven't talked much."
no subject
He misses Alec. And there's nothing he can do about it.
So he avoids the first half, folds his hands neatly in his pockets and things of how easy it would have been to burst a hole through this place and get them both out. It isn't possible.
"You never were fond of Mundanes."
no subject
"What's the point of being fond of them," Alec says with a philosophical shrug. "It's easier to protect them if I don't them." And he didn't need anyone outside his family.
no subject
Magnus knows that better than anyone. He's spent his fair time in solitude. Alec may seem like a person who suits it but Magnus doesn't want him to be lonely.

"There are angels here, I will have a purpose."
no subject
Magnus hasn't had the opportunity to speak to any of them yet - and if he has they haven't actually told him what they are yet. But he falters in his step a little, concerned gaze locking on the boy.
"And there hasn't been a town outrage?"
no subject
"I doubt it is common knowledge. Mundanes don't recognise the names of angels. My duty is as clear as it was back home."
no subject
Alec, be a dear and explain to him of the vessels.
no subject
"They are hard to miss, apart from their names."
Possession is a name associated with downworlders. Alec isn't sure what to make of angels taking control of human bodies. Sure the people agree to it but...there was nothing for it in the laws.
"Humans agree for them to share their bodies," he explains reluctantly. It's clear from his face that his world views have been shaken.

"Hark! The herald angel sings through the mouths of the weird little citizens."
no subject
"They are still angels Magnus." He doesn't know if he could give up his body to an angel. 'They don't know about Shadowhunters."
Yup moving on.
no subject
He knows what that means to Alec. The race of the Shadowhunters have been chosen directly by God. They have their duty and their destiny and to run into angels who don't know that.
"Well, I'm sure you can enlighten them."
no subject
"Two of them know, now." He pauses as he strides towards the house, his shoulders set. "They have nothing for me to do." That scared him. He isn't needed or wanted by anyone. He has to keep the laws going, or he has nothing left.
no subject
He knows how Magnus feels about the law. He helps because he cares about the people, not about the council. And to see him wind himself up in a place without his rules or duty makes his heart twinge.
"You can be a Shadowhunter anywhere you need to, but we're both stuck here. We're going to need to fit in to survive."
no subject
He steps closer to Magnus as he resumes walking. They had been each others strength before. "You are standing out."
no subject
He flashes him a grin, something sharp and wicked and so very Magnus. "Well, I can hardly tame my own wonder anymore than you can stop being a Lightwood."
There's a pause, then he hums, "We have that in common."

Alec has had weeks of missing him. Magnus had five minutes of them being no longer together. He hasn't even had chance to try and find his magic carpet.
no subject
Ignore the worry please, Magnus.
no subject
His gaze is curious as he steps inside but there's no real life to it, none of Alec's usual charm. The Institute suits him. Magnus' own home suits him. This doesn't.
"I'm sure the rest of them are quaking in fear."
