Tunnel Vision is Not Always Helpful
Who: Martha Jones and Open
When: Day 121
Where: The destroyed clinic and eventually the tunnels
What: Saving medicine
Martha heard the service announcement. She would make her way to the tunnels, after she A) gathered up as much medical supplies as she could carry and B) make her way out of the partially destroyed pharmacy.
So she continued to grab every bit of supplies she could as she packed bags. Somehow she'd figure out a way to carry it all.

Meja was still making a sweep of the town, to ensure that no one was trapped or lagging too far behind. Checking the clinic just seemed prudent, and she poked her head in the door. She remembered their little talk about how Martha worked the day shift, as it were.
And as much as she would have liked to have thought otherwise, she had the nagging sensation that they'd need a doctor before the day was done.
"Do you need any help?"

There's a rumble and Martha freezes, looking up at the ceiling as though daring it to come down.

She glanced at the supplies assembled and raised a brow slightly, though of course she could see the wisdom in it. But the amount... "That's quite a bit of supplies already. Looks like you'll need some help carrying it."
no subject
She began packing the supplies into one of two medical bags. "We'll keep a full first aid kit in both of these. Do you know basic first aid Meja?"
no subject
"Ja. I have experience in the matter."

It takes a few more minutes to finish packing. Martha mostly ignores the groaning of the building.
"Is everyone else out safely?

After giving the building a once over, Martha turned to Meja. "Ready? Before this place collapses down on both of us?"
no subject
She holds the door open for Martha, waiting for her to be safely out before following.

Mystique wasn't sure how long it had been since she'd entered the tunnels. There was no light, and no way to know what time it was electronically. She'd been shuffling around, feeling her way around blindly. Powerless not only meant she was completely naked, it also meant her slight healing ability was gone, and her feet had quickly been torn up by the rocks. By now she was tired and thirsty, but determined to keep moving.
She froze and crouched down when she thought she heard a noise up ahead in the tunnel, squinting her eyes uselessly at the wall of blackness.

"I know you're back there, whomever you are. I'm Dr. Jones. Do you need any medical assistance?" That was about all she could give.
no subject
"Raven," She stated into the darkness in Martha's direction. "What supplies do you have? Water?"
She had been given a coat, but she'd cut it to shreds to make her own makeshift bandages and wrap it around her bare feet, chest and hips.
no subject
"Hi Raven, we talked after the last earthquake. I'm Martha." She'd only introduce herself as Dr. Jones because it seemed more important to be known as a doctor at this point. But the other woman hadn't shown herself yet, so Martha assumed Raven had a distrusting nature. Probably safe in these tunnels.

"Martha. I recognize your voice. After the last- that's right, you were trying to help people," She said with a nod, remembering. "You're a doctor."
She slowly moved back to the wall she'd been using as a guide to move along the tunnel, inching her way towards Martha.
"I'm headed your way, I think. Could you spare a bit of water. I ran in here, like an idiot, thinking I might get a chance to take a swing at one of our captors. ...is that you?" She asked, pretty sure she could make out an outline of a person. "Long story short. I brought nothing. Nothing but a knife I had on me."
no subject
"I'm here. Sorry, dark skin makes me mostly invisible. Probably should have worn something other than black. I'm holding the water out. You should find it shortly. Just, perhaps reach with the hand not holding the knife?"
She makes a joke out of it.
"I seem to have made it just in time. The clinic collapsed almost the moment I exited the door."

In the tunnels?
In short, he's scrabbling around in the dark and he's not all that happy about it. When he hears something up ahead, he's really hoping that it's something that's not out to kill him. Cautiously, he speaks, "Hello? You wouldn't be a hideous nightmare creature, would you?"
Sounds great!
She was aware of someone behind her in the dark. She turned and thought she saw someone behind her, but it was hard to tell. Granted, she was close to invisible. Her lab coat had been buried in the earthquakes, so she was still clad in mostly black. And between that and her skin tone, she wasn't exactly easy to see.
Martha smiled though at the stranger's question.
"Hideous Nightmare Creature? No. Some call me the Voice of a Nightengale, but never a Nightmare," she called back. More seriously she added, "It's Dr. Jones. Do you need any help?"
no subject
Prompted by her question, he sighs and does a quick inventory of himself. He's cut his hand rather badly, but he's wrapped a handkerchief around it, which seems to have stopped the bleeding. "I've managed...I think I'm as well as one could expect, considering these extraordinary circumstances. I really just need help getting out of here."
no subject
She lookw up at him as he mentions getting out. "I think the only thing we can do is follow. Hopefully we're led out soon. I've spent my fair share of time sleeping in tunnels. I'm not so fond of the idea of spending a night in here."
no subject
"Following may be a bit difficult. There seem to be several tunnels. I doubt they all lead out." Yes, he is absolutely brimming with optimism here. Sorry, Martha.
Still, he's going to continue walking forward. That's all they can do at the moment. "What business does a doctor have sleeping in tunnels?"
no subject
"We'll figure it out." She has enough for both of them. "My guess is this is the main tunnel. Probably best to follow that."
She thinks about her answer to his next question for a moment. Best to tell him the truth probably.
"I was trying to stop a man from destroying the world. He wanted me dead. Tunnels make good hiding places."
no subject
"And what had the world done to offend this-" He hisses in pain as he places his injured hand against the wall for balance. "-man who forced you into tunnels?"
no subject
Because whatever it is, it's best to see if she can do anything now. Tunnels aren't the cleanest of places. She'd rather he not get infected.
