Blackout, blackout!

Who: The residents of Cape Kore
Where: The center of town, near the ruined fountain
When: Day 100
What: Stane gathered some supplies for a community fire. Consider this a party-style post reacting to the lack of power and the loss of the communicators.

After the power goes out, Stane spends a few minutes standing stock still in the room, holding his breath and waiting for it to come back, but he doesn't waste too much time lingering in that kind of hopefulness. People are going to need things; they're going to need fire to cook and boil water, and they're going to need to do something about the food that's going to spoil.

It's so important that he helps them. It's so important that he helps them stay alive. Maybe the dream sharing is getting to him, maybe it's made his nightmares... feel real, but...

They're going to survive this. He's determined.

He gathers some wood that can be used for firewood and kindling, and he leaves them in the center of the town; he has no way of announcing that the things are there, really, but he cups his hands around his mouth and shouts a general Go to the fountain! Maybe someone will hear him.

Maybe it's just a show of power. Like maybe they're super powerful gods or sommat and they just like showing off - like kids squishing ants and bugs.

Makes you wonder where our God is in all of this...

[ Damn it, Dean! Stop leaving out all the important bits like how awesome Meg is and how she totally sacrificed herself for Team Winchester and how she totally helped them save the world. ]

"I wasn't aware you had to know," she comments innocently. "I thought you just moved the sides and hoped for the best."

Ah, I see. Thank you for introducing me to it. [She's amused by the term, and visibly so. It must have had a colorful evolution.] ...We certainly do. Our captors seem to have a preference for it. But not everyone's like that. Knowing how to handle a weapon can bring as many problems as it solves.

Right. [ Enjoy the smugness that is now tinted with a little bit of annoyance. Because there is nothing worse than talking to someone with a more obnoxious personality of your own. That's probably how Dean feels too. For two guys who claim to be so damn different they are so damn close in terms of personality that it's kinda spooky. Though Alec looks out for himself more than other people and Dean seems to have made a business of looking out for folks. What an idiot.

He snorts with laughter when he tries to make a case that Alec is gonna get him into trouble. What the hell would he gain from getting this guy in trouble? Half the people here liked him and he looked slightly younger than him. You'd have to be drunk and stupid think they were the same guy.

What a fucking weirdo. Alec is already fed up with him. ] I don't have scissors in my body. If I did--I'd be fine. [ It'd puncture a few things and rattle around. He had advanced genetics and he had sustained worse than scissors rattling around inside of him. ] You're weird.

[ Oh, he'd be fine huh. Well, la-dee-da. It's true that they're very similar, which is probably why they're not doing a good job of getting along so far, as Dean kind of makes obnoxious into an art form. He's also not entirely fond of himself, most days, and that probably isn't featuring here, but hey, it could.

And he doesn't trust this guy. Dean's maybe not thrilled with being reminded of what he looked like when he was younger -- sure, he was always good looking, but he likes how he's aged. That is, Alec looks like Dean could snap him in two.

Dean scowls over at him. ]

You're weird. [ Yeah, they're doing this. ]

[The way Ned talks about himself puts a faint frown on Samandriel's face. He's not really used to negativity like that, directed at one's self, and it's just a bit strange to hear Ned consider himself more or less useless.]

I don't believe that's true. I'm sure there are plenty of things you're capable of and could make use of here. [He's not even saying it to be nice or to make Ned feel better, it's simply him being honest. He's better at that than cheering people up, anyway. A slightly furrowed brow joins the frown, and Samandriel tilts his head to the side curiously.] Aren't you part of the Farming Club? One of the leaders, even? That's far from useless.

[The question is, perhaps, a bit of a sensitive topic, but he doesn't flinch. Fidgets a touch, sure, but nothing notably uncomfortable.] Family? Yes. Plenty. [Of course, the curt way he answers gives away more than anything that things with his family weren't exactly great when he left.] Some of them are here, too. [It's almost an afterthought, a sidenote, something considered uninteresting or unimportant. Of course, he's grateful to have his brothers here, he'd be more of a wreck if they weren't, but all the question had been was did he have any. He doesn't really think to elaborate, though he did at least consider being polite in returning the question.] And you? Family, or even friends at home? Or perhaps some who were brought here as well? I'm afraid I've not met everyone yet, so I...wouldn't know.

[The words come out in a rather grave tone of voice, mixed with a bit of concern. Concern for Chuck, for himself, for everyone here. The entire place is ominous and disconcerting, but people being taken by the captors and then returned with no memory of it is perhaps the thing that causes the most unsettling feelings.

Expression settling into something unreadable, Samandriel gives a delayed nod. He's silent for a few moments, thinking, but...the thoughts lead nowhere. There's no way of knowing how it happens, and searching for an answer, just as searching for an escape, is likely dangerous.]

But you're unharmed, at least. You were even when you were returned, correct? It's...probably best to focus on and simply be happy with that.

[He nods rather gravely in his agreement with her statement; hope is about all they have here, really. Maybe there's not a lot, but even the bit everyone has is important. It keeps them going, keeps them from simply giving up, and it might even help them all to get out of here one day. Maybe.

Donna's question grabs his attention quickly, and though he does take a pause to consider his answer, he's fairly sure of himself when he nods a moment later.]

We will be, yes. If all they wanted to do was kill us, they would have done so by now. I can't say I have any idea of what they are doing, what their intent is with us here, but everyone here has survived everything they've wrought on us so far. I'm sure we'll all continue to. [He offers a small smile, and after a moment's hesitation, he even goes as far as to rest his hand lightly on her arm in hopes to reassure her, even if only a little.] That's not to say that it may not be a struggle, and some of us will likely be more...worse for wear, but...we'll persevere.

[ The touch is reassuring and she's thankful for it. Sometimes a little reassurance goes a long way. Maybe there's something to be said for positive thinking. ]

I'm glad everyone here seems to get along so well. It makes things nicer to say the least. Well, most people. I'm sure there's a few fights now and then, but it's pretty peaceful between fellow captives for the most part.

[ Samandriel is right, of course, about Ned being one of the people in charge of the farming effort. He still feels a bit of a fraud in a position of authority - who is he to tell people what they should do, or to pretend that he knows very much about agriculture. It's difficult for him to view his own contributions objectively; he shrugs, because it would seen argumentative and rude to insist that helping to plant radishes isn't enough, that he ought to be able to really help people, really save them from here, only he can't ]

Oh. [ Ned's perceptive enough to hear how short that first reply is and realize perhaps he ought to ask about a different, less potentially-fraught topic than family. But when Samandriel says that they are here, Ned can't help but look surprised. He hadn't realized people showed up here along with family members. Sure, there are people who know one another - Charlie and Meyer, Charles and Erik, and others - but not family members, as often ]

Who? [ It might be a rude question, and he knows it, but it's going to bother him if he doesn't know, if he wanders around meeting people wondering if they might be related to him. Hell, maybe some of them are people he already knows. The question about his own family is not unexpected; that's how conversation works, and he has a reply ready. Shaking his head, he answers: ] No and no, I'm afraid. [ No one back home, and no one brought here. He cuts off Samandriel's potential pity in advance, says: ] But I've been here long enough that... there are some people here who are as good as family, to me.
