Blackout, blackout!

Who: The residents of Cape Kore
Where: The center of town, near the ruined fountain
When: Day 100
What: Stane gathered some supplies for a community fire. Consider this a party-style post reacting to the lack of power and the loss of the communicators.

After the power goes out, Stane spends a few minutes standing stock still in the room, holding his breath and waiting for it to come back, but he doesn't waste too much time lingering in that kind of hopefulness. People are going to need things; they're going to need fire to cook and boil water, and they're going to need to do something about the food that's going to spoil.

It's so important that he helps them. It's so important that he helps them stay alive. Maybe the dream sharing is getting to him, maybe it's made his nightmares... feel real, but...

They're going to survive this. He's determined.

He gathers some wood that can be used for firewood and kindling, and he leaves them in the center of the town; he has no way of announcing that the things are there, really, but he cups his hands around his mouth and shouts a general Go to the fountain! Maybe someone will hear him.

[Dilandau watches him warily. That's an odd reaction. Odd, but familiar, if he thinks back to the shattered part of his life. Of course, he's not going to just ask if the Sorcerers had been tampering with Stane's mind in case their listening captors become suspiciois about why he'd think that, so he makes an exploratory little jab]

Losing your memory already, old man?

[ He looks sharply at Dilandau, and then over at the nearest camera, before he looks away again. He drops his hands. ]

Maybe.

[He gets the hint that this isn't something to address too directly]

Have you been here that long?

[kore_npc]

I think so. I... [ He frowns, trying to move through the dreams he had recently, rather than focus on remembering. It's easier that way, even if things are dimmer and more difficult to recall. ]

I've been here since the beginning. The very beginning.

[burnburnburn]

Were you alone then?

[It sends a cold shudder down his back to imagine being trapped in this abandoned place with no one else]

[ Stane clenches his jaw, then closes his eyes.

When he talks, his voice is so low that only Dilandau can hear him. ]

No.

[burnburnburn]

[Dilandau leans nearer, speaking just above a whisper]

What happened, Stane?

[kore_npc]

[ He shouldn't be saying this. He could be dooming them all. But then is he supposed to keep this quiet? They have a right to know what kind of danger they're in. ]

They tried to escape, but the plan was leaked, and the scientists, they... removed the troublemakers. [ He looks pained, and he actually is; his nose has started to bleed. ]

They tried to alter my memories, too. It worked up until recently.

[burnburnburn]

[He's alarmed at the blood, but he keeps pushing, because if Stane keels over from the strain he might not get another chance]

How did they alter you!? Were they using fate particles, or some other machinery?

[kore_npc]

[ That does distract Stane from the headache and revealing this secret that he maybe ought not to, and he frowns at Dilandau as he dabs at his nose. ]

I don't know what you're referring to. They altered my memories, as best as I can figure. The dream sharing seems to have shaken them loose, but it isn't perfect. I'm sure if I did know how they did it, it's buried somewhere in my brain and I can't get to it.

If you suggested this to me, I'd punch you, but still, have you spoken to Charles Xavier? He might be able to dig around your skull and shake loose what it is you can't remember.

[ The idea still unsettles Stane, but... Well, the dam has broken now. Probably the scientists are already aware of that. ]
